Urban Frequency Rust

Urban Frequency Rust
In this piece, Elsa pushes the boundaries of mineral plaster as a sculptural medium. The work is defined by a meticulous layering process where hand-sculpted ridges meet a complex, multi-stage application of metal and minerals and patina.
The Art of Controlled Decay: unlike traditional pigments, the finish of Rust is a result of time and chemical transition. The application of raw iron particles and reactive patinas requires a patient, multi-day curing process.
The Oxidation Phase: Each section is treated to initiate a real-time oxidation process, where the rust is not applied, but grown.
The Patina Depth: Multiple layers of acidic washes are introduced to create the deep umbers and burnt siennas seen in the recesses of the "oscillations," ensuring that no two square centimeters are identical.
