Transforming the open house kitchen at JEN Hotel Hangzhou into a sensory sanctuary.

Architecture becomes human when it touches the rituals of daily life. Designed specifically for the All-Day Dining open house kitchen at JEN Hotel, Hangzhou, Flowing Tranquility explores how deep material texture can soften functional, high-traffic environments and introduce a quiet, grounding resonance.

The open kitchen is inherently a place of warmth, movement, and community. To complement this energy, the studio developed an undulating plaster relief that acts as a visual and psychological anchor for the space. Drawing from our tweed and wave texture explorations, the piece interweaves rich earth tones, subtle stone glazes, and fluid, hand-carved channels. The repetition in these lines is a deliberate grounding mechanism—a rhythmic cadence engineered to quiet the nervous system amidst the sensory noise of a bustling hospitality venue.

By embedding raw, mineral depth into the heart of the hotel’s dining experience, Flowing Tranquility blurs the line between functional interior architecture and fine art. It invites guests not just to observe a surface, but to attune to an organic, primal rhythm—bringing a moment of stillness and tactile reflection to the shared table.
